Berlin is a city I have been to several times but never written a travel guide to. If you like history, you will love Berlin! There is a lot of history behind every monument and district here. Personally Berlin is a special city to me. I never had a great experience here, maybe because of the weather, but for each time I visit Berlin it´s getting better and better 🙂 This city has a lot to give!

How To Spend 24 Hours in Berlin

Berlin as a city has taken me several times to like and is a city that needs to be explored few times to completely like. That is atleast my impression of it.  Now I´m attached to the city 🙂 Regardless of what I think of Berlin as a city, I would like to write my own travel guide to you readers with this post and hope you will enjoy Berlin 😉

Postdamer Platz Berlin

Thanks to amazing weather last time I visited Berlin, it went high up om my list! 🙂 The sun was shining all day long and that helped me like Berlin as a city more than ever before. Berlin is actually a pretty nice city and my impression of this city is so much better now 😉

If you have 24 Hours in Berlin, This is what I recommend you to do:

1. Brandenburger TourBerlin, Tyskland

Brandenburger Tour is a combined city gate and propylene, which has become a symbol of Berlin. It has played different roles in the city’s history and is incredibly beautiful to look at! 🙂 The port is the only remaining of 14 city gates in Berlin. It is located at the end of the shopping street Under den Linden, a famous Boulevard (read more about it further down). Berlin

2. Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz is a well-known and historically significant square in the district of Mitte, in the center of Berlin. Alexanderplatz is also a focal point for public transport in the eastern part of central Berlin and is a famous place to meet up. Next to Alexanderplatz you will find the famous TV tower and many shopping galleries.

3. Berlin Wall

Berlinmuren

The Berlin Wall was a barrier that separated West and East Berlin between 1961 and 1989. The wall was built by East Germany to stop the extensive escape of East German citizens to West via West Berlin. Most of the wall was reefed during years after the opening of the border in 1989. Today, only a few shorter stretches have been preserved, including at Bernauer Strasse, which I visited, not far from Checkpoint Charlie.

4. Postdamer Platz

Postdamer Platz Berlin

Potsdamer Platz is a significant square and a traffic hub in central Berlin with many skyscrapers. Postdamer Platz is a square with office scrapers, shopping and entertainment districts. For me it was enough to just take walk passing byt this district. It´s not that much to see.

5. Parliament house – Reichstag

Berlin Germany

The Reichstag house in Berlin is a huge house characterized by its large glass dome. This is one of Berlin’s major tourist attractions and I understand why when I pass it, it’s huge! A beautiful building worth seeing from all angles! 😉

6. Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint charlie

Checkpoint Charlie was one of the most famous border crossings between East and West Berlin between 1945 and 1990. It was on the border between Berlin’s US and Soviet sector and the Mitte district of East Berlin and Kreuzberg in western Berlin. Every time I visit Checkpoint Charlie there are always two guys talking and kidding with tourists. A real tourist trap to take pictures at and with these gentlemen but interesting to have been here.

7. Berliner Dom

Berlin Germany

Berliner Dom is Berlin’s Lutheran cathedral and the largest Protestant church. Incredibly beautiful cathedral and if you stand in front of it, you can also see Berlin’s Tv tower between the churchs towers in the background. Definitely worth passing this magnificent building, located at Unter den Linden!

8. TV tower – Fernsehturm

TV Tower in Berlin

TV Tower Berlin

Berlin’s TV tower, also known as Fernsehturm, is a radio and television tower located right in the center of Berlin, next to Alexanderplatz. It has a height of 368 meters and is Berlin’s tallest building. From here you can enjoy a lovely view over Berlin. If you visiting the TV tower by evening, it´s a perfect place to have a drink at the bar with this amazing view in front of you.

There is also a rotating restaurant at the top of the TV Tower. It looks incredibly cozy and romantic for a date night. Next time I come to Berlin, I really want to eat in this restaurant. Don´t forget to book a table, that´s the only chance to getting here. You can´t come by and ask if there is any available tables unfortunately.

9. Holocaust Monument

Förintelsemonumentet

The Holocaust Monument in Berlin is a memorial in central Berlin. It is located just between the Brandenburger Tour and Postdamer Platz. My recommendation is that after visiting the Brandenburger Tour, you go to the left and you will pass the Holocaust monument on the way down to Postdamer Platz. This monument site is dedicated to all the Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. The monument consists of 2711 concrete pillars of different height. To the memorial there is a museum underground which shows, among other things, a list of all Jews, which you know were murdered during the Holocaust.

10. Unter den Linden

Unter den Linden

Unter den Linden is a big avenue that passes through central Berlin. It runs from the Brandenburger Tour all the way to Berlin’s TV tower, so if you stroll along this street, you will see a lot of buildings on the road. This street is one of Berlin’s great paradigm streets.

TRAVEL TIPS:

My best travel tips that I recommend and is something I always do, is to take two different maps of the city. A detailed map with all street names as well as a more clear map with pictures of the sights you should see and do. I know it’s easy to use Google Maps on my mobile but I’m a bit old-fashioned and I think it’s fun to have both types of maps in my hand when I visit a city. It is a special feeling! 🙂
